STEPPiN' UP

Stairs.  They come in a variety of widths, lengths and some even have a few twists and turns!  The staircase to our basement, until recently, had a nasty covering of shag carpet that had seen better days.  I could no longer keep it clean so, it had to go!  My son and I ripped out the carpet, pad and tack strips to find even nastier wood steps smothered with petrified glue underneath.  Oh, dear.  Now what?

Plan A:  I was dreaming of repainting the steps.  Not happening!
Plan B: Improvise.

We ended up purchasing oak treads (we applied several coats of polyurethane without stain for a lighter look) and some back board which we painted white.  A local handy man installed them for us and the results are fabulous, easy to clean and we gained an extra inch of depth on each step!

Check it out.
Whether you struggle with problematic stairs or just want an idea to add a little pizazz, check out the photos that follow.   May they inspire you to replace, repair, repaint or try something totally new!

Enjoy taking your steps to a whole new level!
