BUNKiN' iT

Giggles.  Whispers.  Singing the latest pop songs.  Swapping stories late into the night.  My sisters and I spent many years sharing our lives with one another while 'bunkin' it' and we loved every night of it!  Lucky for us, the fun didn't stop with childhood but continued throughout college and into the 'married with children' years.  Bunk beds were more functional than fashionable back then but that's not the case now!  The choices are plentiful and it's the perfect space savers option for maximizing floor space while allowing two or more people to share a room.

If you live in a small home and your family is expanding, you need not make the bold step to move into a bigger home.  There are other ways you can maximize your space, especially the sleeping areas.  Bunk beds are a stylish option that can be tailored to fit in unusual places like under eaves and stairwells. They can even be lined up down a long wall or wide hallway.  You can get creative with their construction as a myriad of materials are available for making them beautiful in both form and function. The boxy bunks of summer camp are no longer the only option!

Bunk beds aren't just for kids!  They appeal to the child in us all!  No matter what season of life you find yourself, bunk beds may be a solution for small spaces as they provide multiple sleeping quarters for live-in family and overnight guests.

If you are a builder at heart and want to embark on building this furniture, get some online plans to aid in construction, head out to the lumber yard or home improvement store and get started!  The rest of us will shop the internet and local stores or find a carpenter who can skillfully bring the ideas knocking around in our heads into reality.

A few ideas to jump start your creative side...

Functional elegance.

A rainbow of color brings on grins and giggles, for sure!

The room below has three beds anchored to the walls
and supported by ropes. Incredible!

Storage above, inbetween and below!
Together... yet privacy maintained.

Nautical notions for those who love the sea.
It's a great way to use a wide hallway or a long room!

Great storage options underneath high bunks. Great for attic rooms!

(Frankly, I prefer the high altitude. I am a top bunk person!  How about you?)
