DATE PASTE - A natural fruit sweetener

 
DATE PASTE... also called 'Date Honey' is often used in recipes to replace of honey, molasses or maple syrup.  It is used to naturally sweeten smoothies and sauces, including BBQ sauce.

Paleo / Whole 30 compliant

Organic dates, pitted
Water

* Cut each date in half lengthwise with a paring knife, remove pit and toss date into a glass bowl or container.
* Cover pitted dates with hot water.  Allow to soak for 30 minutes or longer until dates are very swollen and softened.
* Alternative:  Soak dates in cold water, in the refrigerator overnight. 

* Remove dates from water and place in a food processor (we use a Ninja) or blender.
* Add 1-2 Tablespoons of date water and blend until the paste is creamy.  Add extra date water as necessary.
* Store date paste in a covered glass container in the refrigerator for 3 weeks or in the freezer for 3 months. Use as a natural sweetener for BBQ sauces.
