THE MAGiC OF MiRRORS

Mirrors... the wonderfully reflective surfaces of glass with silvery, metallic backing set into a frame, attached to a handle, etc, for use in viewing oneself or as an ornament.  The mirror has long been considered an essential for the bathroom for its functionality.  However, homes are putting them to use in refreshing, decorative ways these days.  Mirrors are used in every room from the entryway to the kitchen, in the living, dining and family rooms as well as in stairwells, nooks, crannies and other unexpected places.  Now, the infamous looking glasses are indispensable tools in the belts of savvy home decorators.

A well placed, well-sized mirror can magically expand a small space, reflecting light while adding character and flavor to a room.   Re-purpose an old door or window frame by outfitting it with a mirror.  Kitchen cabinets, dressers and small furniture can be given a face lift with new fronts of the magically reflective surface.

Swap it.  Exchange the nondescript medicine cabinet for a framed mirror or one of unusual shape.  It can draw attention away from less than glamorous fixtures.  Choosing an oversize mirror can conceal flaws in the wall while exposing your true beauty! Turning vertical, standing mirrors horizontally visually widens a wall expanding the room considerably.

Vintage selections add instant age, charm and character to any room.  Layer them on a shelf, create a collage or allow larger pieces to stand alone.

Bundle it.  Grouping like items together in a balanced display creates a big impact in a small space.

Favorite frames with mirrors can become the focal point in a room.  Bundling mirrors closely together can create the feeling of one large art piece.  Rest them on a ledge or hang them as a collage.

The frames and composition of the arrangement can make a personal statement equally as powerful as hanging actual art.   If you like the look of framed art collage on a wall but do not have enough art to pull it off, you can always fill those frames with mirrors.
